Chapter 4

Jeff could have resisted as she tossed him from the bathroom, but he'd been too stunned.

How could she suspect he could ever want anyone but her? He told her every day that he loved her, that she was his mate, that she was stuck with him from now until the end of their lives… What about any of that was unclear?

He scratched his head and glanced down at his phone.

And here he'd thought that responding in another room to his brother's text about the pack meeting in the morning was being nice. And as much as he'd wanted to tease her awake, he'd decided to let her sleep. And what did he get in return? A slap?

He let out a long frustrated breath.

Aw, damn it, if the soft sounds coming from the next room were any indication, his mate was crying. He tried the door. It was locked.

"Go away, Jeff," she said.

Like hell he would. They had things to discuss. He could break down the door, but the noise would probably wake the kids. He turned on the light and hunted through the bedroom for a tool of some kind. He grabbed a coat hanger and straightened out the hook.

Kathy had now started the shower.

Well, darlin', it's a good thing that stall is big enough for two, because you are getting company.

The coat hanger fit into the small hole in the round doorknob. He pushed the wire in and wiggled it until something clicked. In the next heartbeat, he was inside the bathroom again.

He closed the door behind him.

Kathy had her face toward the spray and probably didn't even know he was in there yet. The shower doors were glass, giving him a perfect view of her. Water streamed over her luscious curves, making her skin glisten. He'd never known a more beautiful or enticing woman. And what made it even sexier was that she had no idea how gorgeous she was.

"Kathy?"

She jumped and spun around to stare at him. "What are you doing in here?"

"We need to talk."

"Not now," she said and turned her back to him again.

"Yes," he said, "now." He approached the shower stall. "Why do you think I'm lying?"

"That picture is awful. You can't make me believe that would get you hard or excited. You obviously switched the image to that one when I came into the room."

He held the picture up toward her and pressed it to the glass so she could see it. "This one?"

Tears welled in her puffy red eyes. "Yes, that one."

He shook his head. "It's obvious that you have no idea what turns me on." He set his phone down on the counter and crossed to the shower. He opened the door and stepped inside. "I guess I'm going to have to show you."

Her shoulders stiffened. "Don't touch me," she whispered.

"Why not?" He drew closer to her.

"Because if you do, then I'll get distracted…"

He inched forward. "That doesn't seem like a good reason to stay away."

"Why do you even want to touch me when you obviously have someone else…?"

"Because I don't have anyone else.
